Located in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Lake Taihu
is the third largest fresh-water lake in China. It covers an area of 2425
square kilometers. The 48 islets in the lake and the peaks along the lakeside
make up 72 peaks. The noted one is East Dongting Hill, West Hill, Maji
Hill, Sanshan Hill and Yuantouzhu. The best place to see Lake Taihu is
the Shutian Pavilion at the summit of the Deer Crown Hill.
Built in 1918,Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head isle) Park is
located on a turtle-shaped peninsula by the Lake Taihu. It contains a
mansion, a villa, a garden and a pagoda. The garden refers to the "Garden
inside the Garden"-- the orchid Garden within the Yuantouzhu Park, which
covers an area of 1.3 hectares. Wuxi has historically been known for cultivating
orchids. The main structure in the garden is the Orchid Habitat, a rural
style canopy with white walls and dark tiles.
The
largest Buddhist statue in the world is placed atop the Small Divine Hill by Taihu
Lake. The statue is an 88-meter-high bronze statue of Sakyamuni. Entry
