One day Emperor Qianlong asked his favorite minister Liu Yong how old he was. Liu Yong, with drooped hands, answered: "I've spend 45years in vain. I was born in the Year of the Donkey." Qianlong was surprised: "i'm 45 too, but I was born in the Year of the Horse. How could you be born in the Year of the Donkey?" Liu said obsequiously: "Your Majesty was born in the Year of the Horse, so how dare I be born in the same year as Your Majesty?" |
