| Once Su Dongpo went for dinner at a friend's home. The first course served was four baked sparrows. One of the guests picked up his chopsticks and ate three of them at one go impulsively. Then, pointing to the last one, he said to Su Songpo: "Please partake of that one." Su Dongpo answered with a smile: "Oh, no. You have it, please. Otherwise they can not pair off." |

| A criminal sentenced to death was sent to the execution ground. Right before the execution he said to the headsman: "Would you please clean the blade? I heard that when the edge of the work is dirty, a carbuncle grows on the neck of a person beheaded. If you don't clean the blade and I get a carbuncle, how can I be cured?" |
